... Kekseliäin teoksista on muotoilijaparin Aamu Songin ja Johan Olinin Maljakkopuu. Metallisen puun oksille ripustetaan värillisestä lasista suupuhallettuja erikokoisia maljakoita. Puita tulee sairaalaan lähes parikymmentä.
Songilla ja Olinilla on hämmästyttävä kyky tehdä raikasta designiä, joka tarttuu johonkin arjen pikku epäkohtaan. Maljakkopuu ilahduttaa käytävillä ja puusta mukaan poimittavat, kukilla täytetyt maljakot potilashuoneissa. Vierailijan ei enää tarvitse etsiä maljakkoa tuliaiskukille. Hyvästi ankeat kurkkupurkit!

’Product design is an industry with an inbuilt material dimension which ties it to physical space. Things are designed and produced somewhere, and this place is crucial. When production flees to low-cost countries, we have either to save the factories and studios or let them run down. This is a need that has been addressed by a firm called COMPANY. Aamu Song and Johan Olin start their design process upside down. In their Secrets of... projects the designers have scouted factories and smaller producers in countries such as Finland, Estonia, Russia and Belgium. After finding their producers, Song and Olin design products specifically for the producer in question taking into account the tradition and culture of the factoryand even the country in which it is situated. The combination of the designers' playful style and the restrictions set be the manufacturers' capacity has led to some wonderful objetcs, including a Matryoshka-style acorn handbag and felt boots for two, designed for dancing.’ –Iida Kukkapuro

Revitalize industrial traditions with contemporary designs

A Finnish-Korean firm called Company travels to places with a rich industrial heritage—Belgium, Germany, South Korea, Russia, Finland—and works with the local craftspeople to create new products in a contemporary way while demonstrating the skills of the industrial traditions.

Company designs these incredibly charming products. One is called “Car Shoes." made in Busan, South Korea.The shoes look like race cars: one shoe has the race car driver Michael Schumacher and the other has the driver Kimi Raikkonen. As you walk. it looks as if they are racing each other. Another is called the “WinterTie." which was created with an old Finnish manufacturer. It's a hybrid between a scarf and a tie. There's a very nice pair of felt shoes called "Dance Shoes," also from Finland.

Rather than apply a universal approach, these products are about taking the time and care to discover local conditions. Company looks at each situation, culture, and climate in a specific way and tries to evolve or invent an approach that gets the maximum amount of impact out of available resources. It's about creating designs tailored to local cultures.
